What to wear

Beach formal — elegant, but breathable

Think a wedding you'd dress up for, held somewhere warm. Light fabrics, dressy but comfortable, and shoes that can handle a little sand. When in doubt, lean elegant — and pack for heat.

  • A floor-length or midi dress in a flowing fabric
  • Soft, warm-weather colors — florals and pastels are perfect
  • Wedges or block heels (stilettos and sand don't mix)

  • A linen or lightweight suit, or dress pants with a crisp shirt
  • Light colors — tan, sand, soft blue, or grey
  • A jacket optional; a tie is welcome but not required
  • Loafers or dressy sandals over heavy dress shoes
